ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Located on the breezeway of the Trades and Industry Building, Simple Machines: Inclined Plane is part of a series of six sculptures by artists Bruce and Shannon Andersen, inspired by the curriculum taught inside the building. Capturing the essence of elemental machines and principles of mechanics, the artists simplified forms to create immediately recognizable objects that also succeed as formal sculptures.

Northwest artists Bruce Andersen and Shannon Andersen collaborate to create site-responsive sculptural installations. Their artwork "integrates innovative mediums, with natural light, shadow, landscape and the built environment to create compelling interactive installations. Our projects incorporate sustainable methods, with traditional fabrication techniques, responsive to the environmental texture and unique identity of their surroundings."
