ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Palouse Winter is a watercolor painting by artist Andrew Hofmeister. The abstract imagery references natural elements and colors of the Palouse region in Eastern Washington. He asked the viewer to adopt a "poetic interpretation." He noted, "The painting is implicitly Palouse winter and the spectator will miss much if a search for representation is made. It is the mood—the feeling—that is evoked by the subtleties of the colors, the shapes and the textures that are paramount."
