ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inside is a mixed media ceramic painting created by artist Kathy Fridstein. She layered colorful oil paints onto a photograph, which she mounted to a background textured with sand. Ancient pictographs inspired her composition. She notes, "In Inside I employ a vocabulary of hand gestures and colors to relate the different emotional states that prevail over time inside the 'secure dwelling.'"

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Photographer Kathy Fridstein creates compositions that explore the gesture and meaning of graffiti, petroglyphs, and other symbolic forms and methods of pictorial communication. Fridstein received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Beloit College in Wisconsin in 1976. She served as a teaching artist for Seattle's Art in the Public Schools Program and a photography instructor for the Pacific Science Center in Seattle.
