Summer Chair, 1991

American (born 1957)
Location: Glenwood Elementary School, Lake Stevens
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Summer Chair is part of artist Julie Paschkis’ series of collaged paintings based on everyday objects you might find around your house. She notes how even a simple reflection of your home life can communicate certain feelings. As she composed these works “sometimes some emotional content would seem to come in the back door; a teacup would seem homesick, a chair would seem lonely, or contented and happy. I tried to keep open to each painting as it developed.” This theme of the everyday carries over into her materials. She created the chair and umbrella by cutting out shapes from old food tins such as olive oil cans and cookie tins.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with .
