American (born 1950)
Location: Graham Kapowsin High School, Graham
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Judith Caldwell's The Mount Rainier Vision Chair is a seven-foot-tall cast bronze “throne” that pays homage to the powerful view of Mount Rainier from Graham Kapowsin High School. The chair sculpture is designed to revolve 360 degrees, so that a seated viewer can enjoy a breathtaking view of Mount Rainier, or turn the chair back to face the high school. Text and images related to Mount Rainier decorate all sides of the throne. This artwork is also designed to carry on a conversation with a second artwork 'A Journey Around Mount Rainier’, a series of eleven bronze panels that further commemorate the mountain and are located in the foyer of the high school. Graham Kapowsin High School is located in a community that sits as a gateway to Mount Rainier National Park.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with .
