We, the Board of the Washington State
Arts Commission, share the following statement:

“Violence, bloodshed, and the wasting of
the human spirit in these times seem almost inextricably woven into the fabric
of our society. “

The recent deaths of George Floyd and
many other black men and women in circumstances that involved police
use-of-force adds another sickening stain to an unimaginable chronicle of
tragedy.

To Washington State’s Arts + Creative Communities,
The staff and board of ArtsWA stand in solidarity against racism. We acknowledge the historic and persistent legacies of inequity, violence, and community resilience in Washington State. As a staff and an agency, we are saddened and deeply affected.

The National Endowment for the Arts has released its guidelines for the distribution of $75 million from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Securirty (CARES) Act. ArtsWA is currently preparing guidelines to swiftly distribute the funding to arts organizations across the state. More information on how to apply will be available soon. Up to $10 million in emergency relief grants ($5,000 each) are also available through the newly formed national Artist Relief Fund. Here in Washington, small businesses can also apply for $10,000 in emergency relief funding that can be used for operational expenses.
