At its August 2021 meeting, the ArtsWA board unanimously approved 476 artists and artist teams for the 2021 Public Artist Roster. Nearly half of the accepted artists were first-time applicants, and many are experienced studio artists new to public art. Washington artists hail from rural and urban locations in 22 counties statewide. Marvin Oliver’s “Big Bird” gets much needed repair
Native artist and teacher Marvin Oliver created “Big Bird” in 1979 for Yelm High School (YHS). A student of Yakama heritage brought the artwork to the school’s attention. She asked the YHS Principal if the artwork could be restored.

The Center for Washington Cultural Traditions (CWCT) has announced the teams for the 2021-22 Washington State Heritage Arts Apprenticeship Program (HAAP). Sixteen teams of apprentices and masters will work together to preserve these cultural treasures.
