ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Rebecca Allan created this portrait of Susan B. Anthony as part of her "Suffragette Series" which depicts figures of the abolitionist and women's suffrage movements, and highlights their interconnected histories. Seeking to celebrate and explore Anthony's personal life, Allan notes that the 'ghost' image in the portrait references Anthony's close relationship to and care for the children of fellow suffragist, Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
