ABOUT THE ARTWORK

And It All Grew Back and other art by Elisa Dore is shaped by her Puerto Rican and Southern American heritage. It references a middle ground, a duality of belonging to two different cultures, yet not fully fitting into either one. She is also inspired by feminine figures, memories, and the natural world. This artwork is part of a curated collection by Asia Tail in April 2024 for three Federal Way Public Schools in South King County. Asia chose graphic works that are as bold and diverse as the students, by artists with ties to South Puget Sound. Images of language, people, and the natural world create a poem for this place where students live and learn. She notes, "School is a place where we can connect with new families. And families are always strongest when working together."

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Elisa Dore makes artworks that explore her ancestry and family, existing between two cultures, and how it shapes her identity. She is of Puerto Rican and white descent, born and raised outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Her art references this middle ground, this duality of belonging to two different cultures yet not fully fitting into either one. After four years of living in Seattle, Elisa is currently (2024) pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in printmaking in Atlanta.
