ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Portal is a glass and metal sculpture created by artist Amy Roberts. This piece is part of her series highlighting contrasting materials. The composition symbolizes how we protect our vulnerability as individuals. She notes, “The exaggerated suggestion of control in the use of heavy metal hardware around the delicate glass forms is further enhanced by the glass being broken in areas. Planes of fractured glass within the structures suggest a precariousness and fragility which may collapse, but is both supported and protected by the huge metal brackets surrounding the glass.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with .
